Charter leaders,

I had better introduce the Alliance Chairman, Paul Norcross, before I forget. Paul and another Board member, Todd Havican, put our organization together last year. Paul and wife Kim operate a charter school, Phoenix Academy, in High Point. He is head of Global Supply Solutions Group and has founded 7 Degrees of Change Literacy Project. Since he has nothing to do, Paul is seeking the 61st NC House seat being vacated by Laura Wiley, another public charter supporter.

Our membership is growing with Endeavor Charter School, Charter Day School, and Columbus Charter School joining this week.  If you have not done so already calculate your membership dues ($3 per student with a maximum of $1,500.00) for a whole year of support by your Alliance. Make check payable to: NC Alliance for Public Charter Schools and mail today to: 512 St. Mary’s St., Raleigh, NC 27603. An application (attached) should accompany the check.

On March 16, 10 AM until noon, the Alliance will sponsor the charter legal summit in Greensboro I mentioned last week. We will discuss options to ensure our schools are receiving their fair share of education dollars.  Richard Vinroot will present information about his firm’s recent legal victories and how we might proceed as a class of plaintiffs. All Alliance members are invited and are welcome to have their attorneys join us. Please let us know if you will attend this critical meeting by calling 704-236-1234 or by return email, wegoodall@gmail.com. We have not selected a location but will after we see how many of you are coming.

Socrates Academy students Rhea Parikh, left, and Sarah Parrish receive plaques from Principal Janis Dellinger-Holton earlier this month for their involvement with Operation Gratitude, a nonprofit organization that sends care packages to U.S. military personnel. The charter school is on Weddington Road in Matthews.

A note about our young organization from U.S. Charter Schools.
Sen. Kay Hagen is asking for RTTT funds for NC but bets aren’t on our application.
Geoffrey Canada, with the Harlem Children’s Zone (famed charter school), will be speaker Mar.11 in Charlotte at Foundation’s Annual Meeting. I need you for a table of 10 charter supporters to help the Alliance. $100 donation. Call 704-236-1234.

Success emerges early in teachers’ careers, and so does failure, a Harvard University study of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools found.
From Joel Medley, “Glad to see this (NC Alliance) up and running successfully! A substantial revision of the SC charter law has cleared the House Education committee and will be debated on the floor in a couple weeks.”
