Charter leaders,
The education community mourns the death of Kathy Taft, a member of the NC State Board of Education since 1995. She died Tuesday from injuries suffered in an assault in Raleigh. Visitation is Friday at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Greenville and the funeral will be Saturday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Greenville. The Alliance sends its condolences to the family and the Board members who served with her.
Alliance Board member Jane Ellis and I attended Geoffrey Canada’s message to 1,500 at the Foundation of the Carolina’s annual meeting today in Charlotte. Founder of the Harlem Children’s Zone and charter school, Canada said today was the “education equivalent of Katrina” and added “the kids think someone is coming…, but they are not.”
The Georgia Charter School Conference is Wednesday through Friday of this week. I will attend tomorrow’s session and find out what’s going on in the Peach State charter environment. Georgia has 105 charter schools. Thanks for the invitation from CEO Tony Roberts.
