Charter Leaders,
We welcome our newest (and 43rd) Alliance member, Alpha Academy. Thanks Eugene Slocum and the 300 K-8th graders, and your teachers, and parents. We want all of you to come to Raleigh for our summer conference.
Speaking of the July 11-13 conference please visit our website, which we launched last week, and register today. We will have forums for administrators and board members, educators, parents, and other supporters. We need you all to consider making presentations to attendees. Go to Presentations and give us your ideas and topics you’d like to share.
On the national front…
Check this unique report from Michigan on its charter schools.
The Memphis Business Journal reports that despite the key role Tennessee charter schools played in helping the state win $500 million in the federal ‘Race to the Top’ grant competition, Memphis charter schools are unlikely to benefit much.
A membership application is attached. We must have all the schools on board to keep membership fees low and to sustain the Alliance. Plus, all the initial cost should be recovered by discounted conference attendee fees.
John Hood: “Still, if the governor and other state education officials want to increase their odds of success significantly, all they need to do is wipe away North Carolina’s statewide cap of 100 charter schools – and make sure their allies in organized labor don’t raise a stink about it.”
Send me information about your school and I’ll let all see it at www.nccharters.org!
Clover Garden a School of Distinction
Thank you Pine Lake Preparatory, Kate Alice Dunaway, and the 60 parents and educators who braved the tornadic winds, rainstorm, and “drumbeat” to hear about the NC Alliance for Public Charter Schools last Thursday night in Mooresville!
